Position Description

Floral Lead

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

To coordinate and provide support in floral sales, customer service, floral product care and floral design, while achieving budgeted sales and profit objectives.

NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on coordinating floral ordering, designing, merchandising, customer service, department maintenance, inventory control and product care. Primary learning challenge is to provide customers with consistent quality and variety of floral product and strong service levels. This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates, and requires ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision-making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math, lifting, standing and operation of assorted floral tools that may include a stem cutter, box cutter and register. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director, Floral Merchandiser or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  1. Implements and maintains coordinated, aggressive and creative floral merchandising using division guidelines which maximize sales, variety and gross profit
    Creates attractive and creative displays
    Integrates new and seasonal items into displays
    Utilizes a strong signing program
  2. Purchase cut flowers, artificial flowers and plants, blooming plants, green plants, balloons and supplies
    Reviews product availability from order guide, check retails, costs and gross profits
    Determines proper quantity needed based on projected sales
    Places order
    Records each order on calendar
  3. Plans, delegates and writes associate work assignments
    Plans and writes work lists and labor schedules
    Delegates assignments, provides training and work direction, and monitors to ensure completion
  4. Completes departmental paperwork
    Retails invoices daily, stamps, logs, records and sends to office
    Verifies invoices to store statement
    Reviews management report
    Takes inventory as needed
  5. Performs personnel functions Assists with performance reviews
    Recommends corrective action as appropriate
    Provides training for new and existing associates
  6. Assists with coordinating in-store promotions and advertising
    Meets with other store personnel to plan in-store holiday sales and merchandising plans
    Notifies POS of specials and price changes
    Keeps department product properly signed
  7. Coordinates and assists with customer sales
    Ensures customer service is prompt, courteous and accurate
    Helps customers make selection
    Determines type, style and price of arrangement desired, makes payment arrangement and packages the order
  8. Coordinates and assists in receiving and pricing all plants and flowers supplies
    Checks shipment for content and quality
    Verifies delivery to invoices and signs
    Prices, strips, cuts and conditions flowers properly
    Upgrades blooming and green plants and adjusts retails accordingly
    Follows retails and prices for all product and puts product on shelf
    Ensures proper pricing in all store and department systems
    Maintains an accurate floral scan file
  9. Provides plant care and flower processing
    Removes hanging baskets from display rack with plant hook, waters and replaces to rack
    Checks and waters all green and blooming plants on sales floor
    Removes dead leaves
    Unpacks, cuts and processes cut flowers
    Maintains bouquets, bud vases, arrangements
  10. Coordinates and assists with the cleaning of all floral display and storage areas, walk-in, bouquet and arrangement coolers, back coolers, work area, glass mirrors
    Sweeps and washes inside of all coolers
    Empties water buckets
    Bleaches/sanitizes buckets, tools and work area
    Cleans glass and mirrors
  11. Follows all store and department policies and procedures

    FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Frequent: Physical – lifting/carrying 2 to 20 lbs., standing, reaching, turning, stooping/bending, equipment operation (calculator, knife, scissors, underwater flower cutter, wire cutter, telephone, register), walking
    Mental – reading, writing, math, judgment/decision-making, social/verbal interaction
    Environmental – exposure to cooler
    Occasional: Physical – lifting/carrying 20 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 150 to 500 lbs., equipment operation (flatbed, pallet jack)

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
    High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
